If you’re considering hiring an interior designer to furnish your home, one of the first questions you probably have is: How much should I realistically budget?
The answer depends on the size of your home, the rooms you’re furnishing, the quality of furniture you’re looking for, and how customized you want the finished space to feel.
At StyleHouse, we work with homeowners throughout the Phoenix area to create interiors that feel polished, comfortable, cohesive, and personal. Whether we are starting with an empty home or working around furniture you already own and love, our goal is to bring everything together beautifully.
You do not need to start from scratch to have a professionally designed home. Sometimes the right rug, lighting, furniture, artwork, and finishing layers are all it takes to completely transform a space.
Here is what we recommend considering when establishing your furnishing budget.
Homeowners often start by thinking about the largest pieces, like a sofa, dining table, or sectional, but a completed room includes much more.
Depending on your project, your furnishing investment may include:
It is the combination of these layers that takes a room from simply furnished to intentionally designed.
For a professionally designed living room with StyleHouse, homeowners should generally plan for a furnishing investment starting around $10,000+, depending on the size of the room and selections.
The living room is often the heart of the home, and we love turning a big, empty great room or a space that feels a little unfinished into somewhere you actually want to spend time.
Arizona homes often have large open floor plans and tall ceilings, which means scale matters. A sofa that looked substantial in a showroom can suddenly feel tiny once it is sitting in a large great room. The right sectional, oversized rug, accent chairs, tables, lighting, and artwork can completely change how the room feels.
At StyleHouse, we think beyond simply filling the floor plan. We want the room to feel inviting, balanced, and effortless, whether you are hosting friends, watching a movie with your family, or simply walking through your home and loving what you see.

A complete dining room may typically require an investment starting around $8,000+.
The dining room is one of those spaces that can go from feeling a little forgotten to becoming one of the most beautiful moments in the home.
A statement dining table, the right chairs, a properly scaled chandelier, artwork, and a rug can completely transform the room and create a space that feels ready for everything from weeknight dinners to holidays and dinner parties.
Dining chairs are also a great example of how quickly a room budget can add up. Eight chairs at $350 each are nearly $3,000 before purchasing the table, lighting, rug, or artwork.
Rather than thinking about each item individually, we look at the entire dining experience. We want the lighting to feel special when you walk into the room, the chairs to be comfortable enough to linger after dinner, and every piece to feel like it was meant to be there.
The goal is not just a table and chairs. It is creating a space where people want to gather.
For a fully designed primary bedroom, a realistic furnishing investment may start around $7,000+.
Turning a half-furnished bedroom into a luxury hotel-inspired retreat is one of our specialties at StyleHouse.
We often walk into primary bedrooms that already have a bed and nightstands but still feel unfinished. An oversized rug, properly scaled lighting, beautiful bedding, drapery, artwork, a bench, and thoughtful styling can completely change the room.
We can also work around furniture you already own and love. You may not need an entirely new bedroom set. Sometimes it is simply about adding the missing layers and creating a clear vision around what is already there.
Our goal is to create the kind of primary bedroom you would be excited to check into on vacation, except you get to wake up there every morning.

Whole-home furnishing budgets vary significantly based on square footage, number of rooms, and desired level of finish.
As a general starting point, furnishing several primary living areas may require an investment of $50,000+.
For larger homes or projects incorporating higher-end furniture, custom window treatments, artwork, lighting, and extensive styling, furnishing investments can reach $100,000+.
Our goal is not simply to fill every room. We want you to move throughout your home and feel that every space belongs together.
One common misconception is that sourcing furniture through an interior designer automatically means the furniture itself will be more expensive than what you would find at a big-box retailer. That is not always the case.
At StyleHouse, we work directly with a network of to-the-trade furniture vendors and manufacturers, and in many cases, these are the same types of manufacturers producing furniture for well-known retail brands such as Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel.
The difference is that we are able to source more directly through our trade relationships, giving our clients access to a wider selection of furniture, finishes, fabrics, and styles that may not be available on a typical retail showroom floor.
We also tend to find that many of our trade sources offer a better balance of quality and value. Rather than simply paying for a recognizable retail brand name, we can focus on the construction, material, comfort, scale, and overall design of the piece.
That does not mean every item in a home needs to come from a trade vendor. We may still mix in an approachable retail piece or work around furniture you already own and love.
Our goal is always to make smart selections for your budget while creating a home that feels elevated, cohesive, and uniquely yours.
Not necessarily. Many StyleHouse clients initially begin with their most important spaces and, after seeing their first installation, love the transformation so much that they ask us to continue throughout the rest of the home.
If you already know you want to design several rooms, including more of the home in the original scope is typically more cost effective from a design-fee standpoint and allows us to create one cohesive vision from the beginning.
Purchasing and installation can still happen in phases to accommodate your budget.
There is no single “right” budget for every StyleHouse client. A $10,000 room requires a different approach than a $30,000 room, and understanding your investment level allows us to make smarter design decisions from the start.
At StyleHouse Home Staging & Design, we work with homeowners throughout the valley to create homes that feel elevated, comfortable, polished, and personal.
Whether your home is empty, half-furnished, or simply not coming together the way you envisioned, we would love to help turn it into your dream home.
From the first selections to the final pillow placed on install day, our goal is to create a space that feels personal, cohesive, and picture perfect.
